KHARTOUM, Sudan (AP) — Algeria qualified for the 2010 World Cup with a 1-0 win over Egypt on Wednesday.

A stunning first-half strike by defender Antar Yahya gave Algeria victory in the playoff match.

Yahya's 39th-minute winner came against the run of play when he took advantage of a lapse in concentration by Egypt's defenders to hit a perfect volley in off the underside of the crossbar with his right foot from an acute angle.

The match was played in Khartoum, Sudan, after the two teams finished their group matches level on points and having scored and conceded the same number of goals.

The win means Algeria will make its first appearance at a World Cup since 1986 and once again highlighted Egypt's inability to carry its impressive form in Africa — it has won the African Cup a record six times — into World Cup qualification tournaments.

Egypt last appeared at a World Cup in 1990.

Failing once again to reach the game's biggest stage is likely to be hard to take for the football-mad nation.

Egypt dominated possession without creating many goalscoring opportunities, while Algeria always looked dangerous on the break.

Algeria become the fifth African nation to reach the finals through qualifying, alongside Cameroon, Nigeria, Ivory Coast and Ghana.

A bigger bra size not only gives your sex appeal a boost but also reflects your intelligence, suggests a new survey.

A study conducted in the United States showed that women with big breasts are smarter than those who are less endowed.

Referring to a Singapore newspaper article, Sin Chew Daily revealed that the study was aimed to find out whether the size of a woman’s bust affected her brainpower.

The study, conducted by a female researcher in Chicago, involved 1,200 women. The subjects were divided into five groups, from extra small to extra big, reports The Star Online.

The study speculated that such women were smarter due to the higher level of female hormones that could result in better development in the brain.

Archaeological discoveries: Two mural paintings portraying Heaven and Hell were discovered at al-Marqab Citadel in Tartous, Director-General of Ruins and Museums Bassam Jamous said to Syrian al-Thawra Daily on Saturday.

Jamous indicated that the paintings reveal the sophisticated capabilities of the Syrian artists and highlight social and religious rituals.

He added the analysis of the two paintings would lead to important results that give an insight into the social and ritualistic connotations.

Jamous said that the national mission at Tal al-Mosherfa unearthed a number of tombs dating back to the Middle Bronze era, around 700 B.C., as well as dozens of ancient pieces like earthenware containers, stressing that decoding them would expand knowledge of that era.

al-Marqab Citadel located only 6 Km from Banias, this magnificent castle sits on the side of an extinct volcano, over watching the sea. Called Qalaat Al Marqab in Arabic it means Castle of the watchtower. This is where Richard the Lionheart landed at the beginning of the third crusade.

Founded in 1062 by the Muslim Arabs it was then taken over by the Byzantines then somehow passed into the hands of the principality of Antioch at an unknown date. It was then sold to the Hospitallers in 1186 and was rebuilt to the latest Frankish military standards of architecture and used by the crusaders until it fell into the hands of Sultan Qalaun in 1285, after only 5 weeks of battle.

The most important aspects and features of this fortress, are the keep and the chapel. The round keep is a massive tower of strength, and at a diameter of nearly 29 meters and walls of 5 meters thick it is quite typical of 12th century Hospitallers work. From
the top magnificent views of the mountains and the coast can be seen, not to mention the beautiful view of the Mediterranean.

As for the chapel, it is entered by two entrances one from the north and the other from the west (up some steps). This chapel, also built in the 12th century is a magnificent example of Gothic art, with traces of Romanesque. Although this chapel is relatively small the fact that there are no aisles makes it quite spacious, this is typical of Gothic art. There are three pointed arches, one decorated in black and white, one undecorated but supported with Corinthian capitalized columns. The rounded apse is two steps higher than the rest of the chapel, and there are two small rooms behind it. The chapel is beautiful in its simplicity.

DAMASCUS, Syria — Angelina Jolie met with Iraqi refugees in Syria on Friday and urged the world not to forget the plight of those among them who cannot return home because of the trauma they suffered and the country's instability.

Jolie visited Syria in her role as a goodwill ambassador for the United Nations' refugee agency, UNHCR, and was accompanied by her partner, Brad Pitt, the agency said.

Tens of thousands of Iraqi refugees have returned home from Syria and other neighboring countries over the past year, but many more are unable or unwilling to return to a country still shaken by violence.

"Most Iraqi refugees cannot return to Iraq in view of the severe trauma they experienced there, the uncertainty linked to the coming Iraqi elections, the security issues and the lack of basic services," a UNHCR statement quoted Jolie as saying. "They will, therefore, be in need of continued support from the international community."

She was referring to Iraqi parliamentary elections scheduled for Jan. 16.

It was the Academy Award-winning actress' second visit to Syria in two years. On Friday, she visited Damascus' poorest suburbs where she was welcomed by two Iraqi families.

She also discussed the Iraqi refugee crisis with Syrian President Bashar Assad and his wife, Asma, UNHCR said.

UNHCR estimates that more than 4.2 million Iraqis have left their homes since the beginning of the conflict in 2003. To date, 215,000 Iraqi refugees are registered with UNHCR in Syria, the majority of whom are dependent on food and other material support.

The actress has worked with UNHCR since early 2001. In 2007, a foundation set up by Jolie and Pitt donated $1 million to help those affected by the conflict in Sudan's Darfur region and neighboring Chad.

Jolie has visited Iraq three times. Her last trip was in July, when she visited a settlement for displaced Iraqis in northwest Baghdad.

The number of people killed in mudslides caused by heavy rains in southern Italy will rise to 50, Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi has warned.

Rescuers are still searching for some 40 people still missing after the country's worst mudslides for 10 years.

Twenty-one deaths and 80 injuries have been confirmed since torrential rains caused violent mudslides around the Sicilian city of Messina early Friday.

The mudslides swept away cars, toppled buildings and blocked transport links.

"In the end there'll be at least 50 dead," Mr Berlusconi told reporters in the early hours of Saturday.

He reportedly called off a visit to the region as he did not want to get in the way of rescue efforts.

Some 250 mm (10 inches) of rain fell on north-eastern Sicily in just a few hours before dawn on Friday, sparking widespread floods.

In places people did not have time to scramble out of their cars before they were struck by a wall of mud that swamped entire streets.

Many Italian newspapers on Saturday questioned why houses had been built so close to river-beds and the seafront in an area known to be at risk of landslides.

Analysts suggest deforestation and over-development had weakened the soil on the hills surrounding Messina, increasing the likelihood of mudslides in heavy rainfall.

A massive mudslide near Naples in 1998 killed some 150 people.

Six volunteers spent 105 days in an isolation module as part of an international experiment in preparation for a manned space mission to Mars.

Under constant surveillance, the all-male crew carried out 72 different experiments to gather data in readyness for a mission to Mars.

All the key aspects of a long spaceship flight were simulated – barring of course the effects of weightlessness and solar radiation, which are more easily researched on the international space station.

The participants found the experiments very interesting and commented that they felt it was important to give the volunteers feedback about the progress of the experiments.

Monotony was the main difficulty encountered by the volunteers.

Samples for analysis were delivered to researchers through a hatch in the isolation module, and researchers also monitored medical data, including exhalation bags as part of on-going research to find efficient non-invasive methods of diagnosing diseases at an early stage. This is important for astranauts but can also help people on earth.

Scientists across Europe are calling this mission a success, although the findings have not yet been disclosed. The analysis of the data will primarily be used to prepare the next stage of the Mars-500 experiment, planned to begin in 2010 with another crew of participants.

The experiments during the 105 days were primarily on the medical effects on the men – that is, in the psychological and physiological fields. Stress linked with cardiovascular problems, effects on the immune system. Of course co-operation and co-existence of the people in the team was also studied, along with dietary aspects.

The main goal was to discover the limits of personal resources in a confined space. There were therefore many psychological experiemtns as well as the physiological ones. How are they sleeping? How are they communicating with their fellow crew members?

Keeping the experience as authentic as possible, the videolink connecting the control centre to the isolation module was set with a time lapse of 20 minutes each way to simulate the time it takes for a radio signal to bounce between Earth and Mars.

The crew had to be completely self reliant, maintaining the module and monitoring each other’s health and behaviour.

Sleep deprivation was also studied. Disturbed sleep leads to changes in irritability levels. The more sleep people lose the more irritable they become and the less perceptive to communication.”

Looking back, the crew members said that those three and a half months didn’t really feel that long – they perceived the time spent in confinement as no more than a few weeks.

The next and final phase of research will be five times as long and inevitably more complicated. The research module in Moscow is being prepared to welcome another international crew for a full-scale simulation of a 250-day trip to Mars, plus 20 days on the red planet and another 250 days to get back to Earth.

The first manned interplanetary mission is expected to take place sometime after the year 2030.

Their thick mud brick walls trap in the cool and keep the sun out as well (beehive homes have very few, if any, windows). The high domes of the beehive houses also collect the hot air, moving it away from the residents sleeping at the bottom of the house.

Inside, its high dome serves to collect the hotter air, and outside to shed rainfall instantly, before the brick can absorb it and crumble. Its thick roof-cum-wall is an excellent low-velocity heat-exchanger, and keeps interior temperatures between 85° and 75° F. while outside noon-to-midnight extremes range from 140° to 60°.

The cemetery consists of 7 rooms including burial chambers with some bodies inside. There were no findings or any clay or bone fragments in those chambers, said Marwan Hassan, Director of the Department.

A hole discovered in the western wall of the cemetery, was thought to be a passage to a small hall. Another hole, opposite to this one, was found in the eastern wall leading to another hall which includes two rooms and a solo tomb. Three vessels, two small golden pieces and clay lamp were also discovered inside the tomb.

A room was unearthed in the southern wall of the first hall, inside which a highly constructed basalt sarcophagus was found.

This sarcophagus takes a human shape, consisting of a basin, a lid and a protuberant shelf all around the edges of the basin.

A human face was engraved on the sarcophagus lid with a decorated head cover under which curly hair shows up partly. The forehead appears with a sunken line, signaling the old age of the dead person. Under the thin eyebrows, almond eyes and long straight nose reveal themselves clearly. Pruned mustaches and a neatly trimmed and wavy beard surround the mouth, and both ears are distinctly located on both sides of the head. The body status appears undecorated.

The sarcophagus was transported to the National Museum. Archeologists at the directorate are working on identifying the age of the cemetery and studying its contents, including a crumbled skeleton.

A solo tomb carved in lime rocks was uncovered 23 m to the northeast of the cemetery, including three damaged human skulls as a result of pressure and time. Bronze and gold jewelry and clay jars were also found in the tomb.

The excavation team finished its work at the site and documented all stages of work in photos and geometrical designs.

The wearing of headscarves has been banned in all publicly run schools in the Dutch speaking part of Belgium. The decision, by the board of Flemish schools, affects about one fifth of all schools in Flanders.

It follows a week of demonstrations outside two schools which banned headscarves earlier this week, arguing that girls were being pressured into wearing headscarves by their families and peers.

The headmistress of one of those schools, Karin Heremans, said the authorities want all pupils to be equal within the school grounds.

“There is a problem when there is pressure on one group because we want to live together in reciprocity and it’s very important for us. Everyone has to feel good in this school, so a social minority here became majority. So it was a problem,” she said.

Next week a court will decide if the decision is up to individual schools or should be taken at school board level which oversees the whole of Flanders.

Pupils have staged protests outside the two schools at the centre of the row and one girl has filed a complaint with the Belgian Council of State to contest the ban.

A biology teacher in Brazil is being sued for asking students to masturbate for a class project.
The teacher asked three teenagers to provide sperm samples (in other words: masturbate) so the class could study sperm under the microscope.

One of the students told his parents about the incident. His shocked parents immediately notified the police.

A spokesman for the police said: "It is a disrespectful and bizarre thing to ask a student, we are all horrified."

The school, located in Campo Grande, Rio de Janeiro, says it's equally appalled by the biology teacher's behaviour.

In the United States and much of the Western world, when a couple divorces, the average income of the woman and her dependent children often plunges by 20 percent or more, while that of her now unfettered ex, who had been the family’s primary breadwinner but who rarely ends up paying in child support what he had contributed to the household till, climbs accordingly. The born-again bachelor is therefore perfectly positioned to attract a new, younger wife and begin building another family.

Small wonder that many Darwinian-minded observers of human mating customs have long contended that serial monogamy is really just a socially sanctioned version of harem-building. By this conventional evolutionary psychology script, the man who skips from one nubile spouse to another over time is, like the sultan who hoards the local maidenry in a single convenient location, simply seeking to “maximize his reproductive fitness,” to sire as many children as possible with as many wives as possible. It is the preferred male strategy, especially for powerful men, right? Sequentially or synchronously, he-men consort polygynously.

Women, by contrast, are not thought to be natural serializers. Sure, a gal might date around when young, but once she starts a family, she is assumed to crave stability. After all, she can bear only so many children in her lifetime, and divorce raises her risk of poverty. Unless forced to because some bounder has abandoned her, why would any sane woman choose another trot down the aisle — for another Rachael Ray spatula set? Spare me extra candlesticks, I’m a one-trick monogamist.

Yet in a report published in the summer issue of the journal Human Nature, Monique Borgerhoff Mulder of the University of California, Davis, presents compelling evidence that at least in some non-Western cultures where conditions are harsh and mothers must fight to keep their children alive, serial monogamy is by no means a man’s game, finessed by him and foisted on her. To the contrary, Dr. Borgerhoff Mulder said, among the Pimbwe people of Tanzania, whose lives and loves she has been following for about 15 years, serial monogamy looks less like polygyny than like a strategic beast that some evolutionary psychologists dismiss as quasi-fantastical: polyandry, one woman making the most of multiple mates.

In her analysis, Dr. Borgerhoff Mulder found that although Pimbwe men were somewhat more likely than their female counterparts to marry multiple times, women held their own and even outshone men in the upper Zsa Zsa Gabor end of the scale, of five consecutive spouses and counting. And when Dr. Borgerhoff Mulder looked at who extracted the greatest reproductive payoff from serial monogamy, as measured by who had the most children survive past the first five hazardous years of life, she found a small but significant advantage female. Women who worked their way through more than two husbands had, on average, higher reproductive success, a greater number of surviving children, than either the more sedately mating women, or than men regardless of wifetime total.

Provocatively, the character sketches of the male versus female serialists proved to be inversely related. Among the women, those with the greatest number of spouses were themselves considered high-quality mates, the hardest working, the most reliable, with scant taste for the strong maize beer the Pimbwe famously brew. Among the men, by contrast, the higher the nuptial count, the lower the customer ranking, and the likelier the men were to be layabout drunks.

“We’re so wedded to the model that men will benefit from multiple marriages and women won’t, that women are victims of the game,” Dr. Borgerhoff Mulder said. “But what my data suggest is that Pimbwe women are strategically choosing men, abandoning men and remarrying men as their economic situation goes up and down.”

The new analysis, though preliminary, is derived from one of the more comprehensive and painstaking data sets yet gathered of marriage and reproduction patterns in a non-Western culture. The results underscore the importance of avoiding the breezy generalities of what might be called Evolution Lite, an enterprise too often devoted to proclaiming universal truths about deep human nature based on how college students respond to their professors’ questionnaires. Throughout history and cross-culturally, Dr. Borgerhoff Mulder said, “there has been fantastic variability in women’s reproductive strategies.”

Geoffrey F. Miller, an evolutionary psychologist at the University of New Mexico, agreed. “Evolutionary psychology and anthropology really need to take women’s perspective seriously in all its dimensions,” Dr. Miller said. “You can construe sequential relationships as being driven by male choice, in which case you’d call it polygyny, or by female choice, in which case you’d call it polyandry, but the capacity of women across cultures to dissolve relationships that aren’t working has been much underestimated.”

He was born on December 23, 1961 in Kafroun, Tartus, Syria into a Christian household. He moved with his family to Beirut when he was 15 years old, where he was granted Lebanese citizenship,[1] and was called the miraculous child at that time, for his artistic talent in singing.

George Wassouf started singing very young at the age of 10 in his hometown Kafroun on different occasions such as marriages, parties, hotels, etc. Shortly thereafter he moved to Lebanon where he began his music career and his popularity grew. It was at the age of 16 when he became known as "Sultan El-Tarab" as called by the famous international Actor Omar Sharif, Arabic for "The Sultan of Music", with his classic song "el-Hawa Sultan".

People at that time thought of him as being the only one who could provide tarab with his magical and crystal voice that was very sharp and high- pitched when he was young and matured into the deep, commanding voice that he is now known for. A few of his first songs that brought him to fame include "Hawa Sultan", "Rohi ya Nesmah", "Helif el-Amar", and "Law Naweit".

Wassouf's magical voice was discovered by his first manager and producer "George Al-Khouri". This happened when Wassouf was 12 years old - he was singing at a wedding party. George Wassouf also got married at the age of 21 to Shalimar, who is originally from Sierra Leone. They have three children: Wadee', Hatem, and George Jr. His eldest son's name is Wadee', which is why he is known as Abu Wadee' (meaning father of Wadee).

George Wassouf has produced more than 34 albums and has performed concerts all around the world. Started from the famous Lebanese show which fired the fame of many Lebanese singers "Studio El Fan" 1980 when he was only 16 years old, surprisingly he was called at this time "Sultan of Tarab". The Song "Hilef il Amar" made a massive hit in the Arab world, although Wassouf was quite young at that time. However Wassouf was able to rise to the rank of "king" of Arab Tarab. Wassouf is famous for his unique style and performance. There are a few younger singers who have attempted to copy his vocal style such as George El Rassi. Wassouf is one of the few singers that were able to attract millions of fans in a short period of time. In addition, Wassouf is not only famous in the Arab World but is also known in Europe and the States as one of the best Arabian singers.

The latest album is "Allah Karim". This song is one of Album's songs. It's called: The Hardest Farewell

Fires are still threatening areas north of Athens and several Greek islands, but firefighters say the area under their control is growing.

Thousands of residents of the capital's northern suburbs were forced to leave their homes as dozens of houses and large areas of forest were burnt.

Italian and French planes have been helping douse the flames.

Nearly 2,000 firefighters, including a Cypriot contingent, and soldiers have been engaging the blaze on the ground, together with hundreds of volunteers.

Local media said the most ominous fire on Monday afternoon was on Mount Kithaironas in Attica prefecture, north-west of the capital.

The authorities have ordered the immediate evacuation of the nearby coastal resort of Porto Germeno.

Fires are also burning on the Aegean Sea islands of Evia and Skyros and on the island of Zakynthos, on the west of the mainland.

The town of Marathon, with important archaeological sites, was encircled by fires but appears to have been spared.

Reports say nuns had to be evacuated from an Orthodox monastery near the seaside resort of Nea Makri, as firemen fought to save the compound from encroaching fires.

"The flames were 30m (100ft) high. Thankfully they came and rescued us," one of the nuns told AP.

More than 90 fires are thought to have started since Saturday and more than 37,000 acres of land have been burnt. A state of emergency has been declared in the Athens region.

On Monday, a regional Athens governor, Yiannis Sgouros said there were "some signs of optimism" but that there would be no let-up in the firefighting efforts.

But while no casualties have been reported, Mr Sgouros has called the fires an "ecological disaster".

BRUSSELS — Anxiety over a new flu strain may have eased over the summer, but millions of Europeans will soon receive a sharp reminder of its virulence as governments prepare for a large-scale vaccination effort aimed at keeping a second — and possibly deadlier — wave of infections at bay.

With another surge in cases of the H1N1 virus — initially known as “swine flu” — expected as soon as September, medical experts say the battle to tame the first pandemic flu in four decades is just getting under way in Europe.

European Union health officials stress that most human cases of the flu have been mild and that patients recovered without special treatment. In another sign of normalcy, a committee of E.U. health officials recommended last week that schools reopen as usual after the summer break.

But with limited amounts of vaccines expected to become available this year, health authorities are girding for many more cases over the autumn and winter flu season, when viruses spread more easily.

“If we get a lot more infections, then there will be a lot more complications in people’s medical conditions and that means a lot more deaths,” said Nigel Dimmock, an emeritus professor in the department of biological sciences at the University of Warwick in England, and a flu expert.

Through Sunday, the European Center for Disease Prevention and Control, an E.U. agency based in Sweden, had recorded 38,187 confirmed cases and 60 deaths in European countries, compared with a global total of 228,921 confirmed cases and 2,084 deaths worldwide.

Those statistics show that Europe has suffered a relatively small number of cases. According to the World Health Organization, countries in North and South America have reported the vast majority of infections and deaths. But this is exactly the time, experts believe, that Europeans should be girding for a more widespread outbreak.

The global pattern of the virus’s spread indicated that “the pandemic is just beginning” in Europe, said Nikki Shindo, a spokeswoman on influenza for the W.H.O.

Up to 30 percent of the British population could become infected during the coming flu season, according to a spokeswoman for Britain’s Department of Health, who spoke with customary anonymity. During an ordinary flu season, between 2 percent and 15 percent of the population is affected, she said.

Britain had 12,903 confirmed cases and 44 deaths recorded through Sunday — the most of any European country, according to the E.C.D.C. Late last week, 39 people with suspected swine flu were in critical care wards in England.

This month, tests confirmed the symptoms of the H1N1 virus, none serious, on 59 students and five staff members at a language center for foreign students in France, near Monaco. The school confirmed there had been cases of swine flu detected but declined to make any further comment.

Others language schools in France have been taking precautions. Accent Français in Montpellier, which has around 150 students 16 or older — from countries including Germany, Spain, Switzerland, Britain and the United States — has stockpiled masks and put up notices on hygiene and medical contact numbers.

Through Sunday, there had been 1,125 cases and one death, recorded in France, according to the E.C.D.C.

“The virus does not appear to be overly aggressive now,” said Odile Launay, director of the Cochin-Pasteur Vaccinology Center in Paris, “but it could become so.”

She said researchers and experts had been surprised at the continuing appearance of new cases during the summer, when flu viruses generally remained less visible.

According to the E.C.D.C., Spain has recorded 11 deaths, the second highest number in the E.U., but has recorded 1,538 cases, far fewer than in Britain; Germany has recorded 11,493 confirmed cases, according to the E.C.D.C., but no deaths. The Robert Koch Institute, a German body responsible for disease control and prevention, said recently that the number of cases had been steadily increasing, with more originating indigenously than from citizens returning from trips abroad.

The W.H.O. said that about one-third of the world’s population would probably be affected by the time the pandemic had settled into a pattern and could be considered a seasonal flu virus — within about two to three years.

Ordinarily the process of developing new influenza vaccines is lengthy, so regulatory authorities in Europe have applied fast-track procedures to make them available as quickly as possible.

A brazen parrot, which spotted a Scottish man's passport in a colored bag in the luggage compartment under a tour bus, nabbed the document and made off into dense bush with it, the Southland Times newspaper reported Friday.

The bird — a parrot of the Kea variety — made its move while the bus was stopped along the highway to Milford Sound on South Island, and the driver was looking through the compartment. Milford Sound, which runs inland from the Tasman Sea and is surrounded by sheer rock face, is part of Fiordland National Park, a world heritage site and major travel destination.

Police told the newspaper the passport has not been recovered and is unlikely to be located in the vast Fiordland rain forest.

"My passport is somewhere out there in Fiordland. The Kea's probably using it for fraudulent claims or something," the passport owner, who did not want to be named, told the newspaper.

A replacement passport from the British High Commission in Wellington could take six weeks and cost up to $250.

"I'll never look at a Kea in the same way," the man was quoted saying.

Kea, the world's only snow line-dwelling parrot, are widely known as inquisitive birds who appear to take delight in attacking rubber items like windshield wiper blades.

Native to New Zealand, the birds are found only in or near South Island mountains, where they live in high-altitude beech forest and open sub-alpine herb fields that stretch up into the snow line.

Covered mainly in brown and green feathers, they have large flashes of bright orange feathers under their wings.

There was a blind girl who hated herself because she was blind, She hated everyone, except her loving boyfriend, He was always there for her, She told her boyfriend, (If I could only see the world, I will marry you.)

One day, someone donated a pair of eyes to her, When the bandages came off, she was able to see everything , including her boyfriend.

He asked her: (Now that you can see the world , will you marry me ?)

The girl looked at her boyfriend and saw that he was blind too. The sight of his closed eyelids shocked her , She hadn't expected that. The thought of looking at them the rest of her life , led her to refuse to marry him. Her boyfriend left in tears.

Days later wrote a note to her saying : ( Take good care of your eyes , my dear , for before they were yours , they were mine )

This is how the human brain often works, when our status changes. Only very few remember what life was like before, and who was always by their side in the most painful situations .

Taim Laham remembers her first Terry Fox Run, she was only two years old and it was on her father's shoulders.

Today, the 16-year-old brunette is a true veteran of the Marathon of Hope and she is already looking forward to her 14th participation come September.

Last year, Laham even tried to get a sense of what Terry's marathon would have felt like with an artificial leg. She tried to walk for 5 minutes on one foot.

"It was difficult, so I switched back to two feet" Laham says, "but I wanted to feel what he felt, I also wanted to revive what he was doing and repeat his actions."

Most Canadians are well aware of Terry Fox and his Marathon of Hope, that annual testament to the courage of the 22-year-old cancer patient who, in 1980, attempted to run across Canada as an inspiration to others.

What they may not realize is that Fox's legacy has now spread around the world, to 29 different nations at last count, including such unlikely places as here in Syria, a country we tend to hear about only when news from the Middle East is at its darkest.

Taim Laham is one of the approximately 3,200 Syrians who, last year, put on their running shoes and their T-shirts with the image of the Canadian hero on the front and take to the streets of Damascus.

For an entire morning, they would run the seven-kilometre distance on one of Damascus' busiest highways — set aside for the event — to raise money for cancer research.

Catherine, a 35-year-old sex worker in San Francisco, is disgusted with U.S. lawmakers for demanding that Craigslist abolish the "erotic services" section.

She says she knew something was amiss on Monday when she attempted to post an ad, offering a massage with "a happy ending." Catherine, who posts on Craigslist about eight times a month, was prevented from posting and couldn't understand why.

"This is ridiculous," Catherine told CNET News. "It is a sign of an immature society to repress sexuality. You're going to create more violence by doing this. The more you repress or distort sexuality, the more problems you create." She described the move by the state attorneys general as "completely incompetent."

Craig Newmark, the man who founded Craigslist, said less than a month ago that there were no plans to dump the erotic-services category. But on Wednesday, the site announced that the Web classifieds publication will do away with its controversial "erotic services" section and replace it with a new "adult services" section. The biggest difference between them will be that for the first time all text and photos will be manually reviewed before they are posted in adult services.

Catherine, who has lived in the United States for 10 years, spoke with CNET News on the condition that she would remain anonymous. She asked to be identified in the article as "Catherine," after the actress, Catherine Deneuve, who played the role of a young housewife moonlighting as a prostitute in the film "Belle de Jour."

She said she can't believe that anyone would think shutting down Craigslist's erotic-services section will prevent prostitution. She said that people like her will attempt to post ads that will avoid detection by the human screeners. If that fails, she predicts that people will go to sites like Eros.com or elsewhere.

"I spoke with one of my clients," Catherine said. "The man is a bank official and he was devastated when he heard (the Craigslist) news."

This is how Sheryl Crow got breast cancer. She was on the Ellen show an said this same exact thing. This has been identified as the most common cause of the high levels in breast cancer, especially in Australia.

A friend whose mother was recently diagnosed with breast cancer and the Doctor told her: women should not drink bottled water that has been left in a car.

The doctor said that the heat and the plastic of the bottle have certain chemicals that can lead to breast cancer. So please be careful and do not drink bottled water that has been left in a car, and, pass this on to all the women in your life. This information is the kind we need to know and be aware and just might save us! The heat causes toxins from the plastic to leak into the water and they have found these toxins in breast tissue. Use a stainless steel Canteen or a glass bottle when you can!

Pop superstar MADONNA has reached out to the victims of the recent earthquake in Italy - donating a substantial sum to the ongoing rescue effort in area where her "ancestors" are from.
The country's Abruzzo region was struck by tremors on Monday (06Apr09), killing over 200 people.
The town of Pacentro, where Madonna's paternal grandparents lived until 1919, was severely affected by the disaster, prompting the region's mayor to appeal to the singer for help.
And Madonna has responded by donating a $500,000 (£345,000) sum to the relief effort, according to People.com.
The star says in a statement, "I am happy to lend a helping hand to the town that my ancestors are from. My heart goes out to the families that have lost loved ones or their homes."

This story happened with teacher in Damascus:

I was walking around in a Big Bazar store making shopping,

when I saw a Cashier talking to a boy couldn't have been more than 5 or 6 years old.

The Cashier said, 'I'm sorry, but you don't have enough money to buy this doll.

Then the little boy turned to me and asked: ''Aunty, are you sure

I don't have enough money?''

I counted his cash and replied: ''You know that you don't have enough money to buy

the dolll, my dear.'' The little boy was still holding the doll in his hand. Finally,

I walked toward him and I asked him who he wished to give this doll to.

'It's the doll that my sister loved most and wanted so much .

Iwanted to Gift her for her BIRTHDAY. I have to give the doll to my mommy so

that she can give it to my sister when she goes there.'

His eyes were so sad while saying this. 'My Sister has gone to be with God.

Daddy says that Mommy is going to see God very soon too, so

I thought that she could take the doll with her to give it to my sister.

'' My heart nearly stopped. The little boy looked up at me and

aid: 'I told daddy to tell mommy not to go yet. I need her to wait until

I come back from the mall.'

Then he showed me a very nice photo of him where he was laughing.

He then told me 'I want mommy to take my picture with her so my sister

won't forget me.' 'I love my mommy and I wish she doesn't have to leave me,

but daddy says that she has to go to be with my little sister.

' Then he looked again at the doll with sad eyes, very quietly.

I quickly reached for my wallet and said to the boy. 'Suppose we check again,

just in case you do have enough money for the doll?'' 'OK' he said,

I hope I do have enough.' I added some of my money to his with out him seeing and

we started to count it. There was enough for the doll and even some spare money.

The little boy said: 'Thank you God for giving me enough money!

' Then he looked at me and added, 'I asked last night before

I went to sleep for God to make sure I had enough money to buy this doll,

so that mommy could give It to my sister. He heard me!'' 'I also wanted to have

enough money to buy a white rose for my mommy, but I didn't dare to ask

God for too much. But He gave me enough to buy the doll and a white rose.

My mommy loves white roses.'

I finished my shopping in a totally different state from when I started.

I couldn't get the little boy out of my mind.. Then I remembered a local news

paper article two days ago, which mentioned a drunk man in a truck, who

hit a car occupied by a young woman and a little girl. The little girl died right away,

and the mother was left in a critical state. The family had to decide whether

to pull the plug on the life-sustaining machine, because the young woman would

not be able to recover from the coma. Was this the family of the little boy?

Two days after this encounter with the little boy, I read in the newspaper that

the young woman had passed away.. I couldn't stop myself as I bought a bunch

of white roses and I went to the funeral home where the body of the young

woman was exposed for people to see and make last wishes before her burial.

She was there, in her coffin, holding a beautiful white rose in her hand with the

photo of the little boy and the doll placed over her chest.

I left the place, teary-eyed, feeling that my life had been changed for ever.

The love that the little boy had for his mother and his sister is still,

to this day, hard to imagine. And in a fraction of a second,

a drunk driver had taken all this away from him.

PLEASE DO NOT DRINK & DRIVE.

One is Evil. It is anger, envy, jealousy, sorrow, regret, greed, arrogance, self-pity, guilt, resentment, inferiority, lies, false pride, superiority, and ego.

People with courage and character always seem sinister to the rest.

The man of power is ruined by power, the man of money by money, the submissive man by subservience, the pleasure seeker by pleasure.

The best weapons against the infamies of life are courage, wilfulness and patience. Courage strenthens, wilfulness is fun and patience provides tranquility.

Opinions mean nothing; they may be beautiful or ugly, clever or foolish, anyone can embrace or reject them.

Carefully and slowly, first-year Mandarin Chinese students at Bishop Fenwick concentrated hard while trying to pick up pieces of popcorn with their chopsticks Monday.

In the back of the classroom, second-year students' chopsticks couldn't go fast enough.

Each student counted each piece by saying the Chinese numbers.

Siena Shirer, a sixth-grader, admitted she isn't very good with chopsticks, but said her Mandarin Chinese class was the best part of her school day.

"I think it'll be useful in my future," Shirer said.

For 15 days, the Mandarin Chinese classes are celebrating the Chinese New Year and learning the customs, like the rituals and foods that go along with the holiday, as part of Catholic Schools Week, a national celebration of Catholic education.

"It's new to them so they're very excited," Principal Mary Walsh said of the first-year students.

Meanwhile, in the hall outside of the classroom, second -year students Frazier Baker, 13, Alex Weingarth, 12, Molly Nash, 13, and Maddy McCarthy, 13, serenaded four Chinese exchange students with the Chinese New Year, or spring festival, song.

"They're awesome," Qinya Guo said. Guo is a senior who has spent her junior and senior years of high school at Bishop Rosecrans High School, with exchange students Jiaqi Dong, 18, Shaofan Zhang, 17, and Jianquang Ran, 17.

"It's more like a family gathering festival," Dong said. "We have traditional food in the evening, we watch TV, there's a big show with fireworks that are very pretty."

All of the students knew that it's the Year of the Ox and the colors are red and yellow.

"They have very specific rituals," Baker said, adding that the most interesting may be the lantern festival on the 15th day.

"They have lanterns all over the cities that are supposed to send any wayward spirits out," he said.

Bishop Fenwick was one of nine diocesan elementary schools in the state in 2007 to be chosen for a federal grant through the Catholic Diocese of Columbus. More than $640,000 was dispersed among the schools to provide the equipment, teacher and facilitator. The grant was provided by the U.S. Department of Education and the Department of Homeland Security, but the grant expires at the end of this school year.

Walsh said the school is searching for sponsors to not only continue the program for students, but also offer a night or Saturday morning Mandarin Chinese class for adults.

Students are taught by a teacher via video conference, with the help of Jeff Myers, the classroom facilitator. Myers teaches band and music and music at the high school.

Bishop Fenwick Schools will continue to celebrate Catholic Schools Week this week with service-based activities like meal preparations for Christ's Table, pennies for patients, prayer services, a family fun night and open houses.

some of the most things that change me & affect on me are Ziad Rahbani songs and plays... He's not so famouse like other singers because all his works are not commercial!
here you are some information about this genius man:

Ziad Rahbani is the son of the Lebanese famous composer Assi Rahbani and Nuhad Haddad, the famous Lebanese female singer known as Fairouz.

He composed many songs for his mother Fairouz, as well as other singers, and he has released music albums of his own. Many of his musicals satirised the political situation in Lebanon during and after the civil war, often strongly critical of the traditional political establishment; others addressed more philosophical questions. He played the lead role in all his plays, and has generally been reluctant to allow the filming of his plays.

Ziad was married to Dalal Karam and had a son named "Assi Jr" with her. But his marriage was doomed to fail, and they got divorced. That led Dalal to write her life with Ziad in the gossip magazine "Ashabaka". Ziad composed some songs about their relationship like "Marba el Dalal" and "Bisaraha", amongst others.

After the divorce, Ziad had a well-publicized relationship with actress Carmen Lubbos that went on for 15 years before they agreed to separate.

Politically, Ziad Rahbani has a long standing relationship with Lebanese leftist movements, and is a self-declared communist. Being a Christian, his politics have meant that he has been at odds with some of his co-religionists. During the Lebanese civil war, Ziad resided in mainly Muslim West Beirut.

Ziad's first known artistic work was "Sadiqi Allah" (My Friend God), a collection of writings between the years 1967 and 1968 when he was in his teens.

In 1973, at 17, Ziad composed his first music for Fairuz, his mother. Assi Rahbani his father was hospitalized and his mother Fairuz was to play the leading role in "Al Mahatta" by the Rahbani brothers, so Mansour Rahbani, his uncle, who had written the lyrics of a song about Assi Rahbani's forced absence, gave Ziad Rahbani the task of composing its music. The song "Saalouni El Nass" became instantly a great hit.

Ziad has also done many political shows on the radio like "Ba3dna Taybeen Oulou Allah" and "El 3akl Zeeneh" and some music related shows.

Since 2006, he writes a column for the Lebanese newspaper al-Akhbar.
